With the Qualifying concluding in the Hungaroring, the F1 world is stunned by the result at the end of the session. George Russell grabs the maiden pole position of his career and the first for Mercedes in 2022. Mr. Saturday has returned and has delivered a dream result for the team.

Earlier in the day, the Brackley outfit massively suffered to bring the temperature into their tires due to wet conditions. However, the racing gods blessed them with dry running in qualifying, and the Briton waited till the last moment to announce himself in P1. For a team who has struggled to get on top of its car, a victory like this helps the team stay motivated in pushing further.

Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff was in high spirits after the session as he said, “We just said that we have to write down everything we did this morning including the food and the drinks have drank to replicate. We will take it.”

“The truth is we saw it at the beginning of qualifying that our tyres were in the right window and the car was balanced, and everything come together. They drove it really well and gained confidence from run to run and that was the result.”

He further reflected on Hamilton ending up in P7 because of a DRS issue “In there moments, you want to cry of joy for the pole position because you know the car was good for him [Lewis] to be there as well. So very bitter sweet”

Remarkable, the seven-time world champion is on a streak of 4-consecutive podium finishes, while the 24-year-old has finished every race, that he has finished, in the top 5 this year.

The Austrian boss is adamant about their chances as he said Let’s see what we can do with that tomorrow in the race and if we have the pace there (rubs nose) then we can be part of the funny games in the front again. If we can maintain the position at the start and be first coming out of the first lap then have some solid stops. Why not? We can win this.”
