Lewis Hamilton has been at the forefront of bringing societal issues and other things wrong with the world and uses his platform to create awareness about the same. Even his mentor Niki Lauda once suggested at an award ceremony that there’s a lot of wrong happening in the world. However, last year the FIA banned the drivers from speaking their hearts out about political issues. But it seems that the rules have been altered for the US Presidential candidate Donald Trump and the fans aren’t happy with this bias.

In February of 2023, FIA imposed a ban on the drivers to “express their views on any political, religious or personal matters” when in the scope of international racing but they can do it all when in their own space. Lewis Hamilton believes that the sport should set an example for others and hence uses the platform to enlighten all around the globe about all the wrongdoings happening across the world.

On many occasions, FIA has reprimanded Lewis Hamilton for expressing his views about the political issues around the world, like when the 7X champ wore the Shirt at the Tuscan GP that read, “Arrest the cops who killed Brendon Taylor” at the 2020 Tuscan GP. Hence to curb this issue, the FIA brought in the rule that if a driver wanted to speak about the same on track, he’ll need to inform the FIA 4 weeks prior and get the approval.

On the other hand, as Donald Trump arrived at the Miami GP, a MAGA cap can be seen in the US Presidential candidate’s hand in all the pictures and videos that have surfaced online. MAGA is a political slogan popularized by Donald Trump which means “Make America Great Again”. MAGA is also a movement started by Trump in his electoral campaigns. And somehow this is being allowed by the FIA.

If Hamilton was wrong and the rule to avoid political opinions in the scope of international racing was applied, then why was Trump allowed to carry the MAGA cap? This is exactly what the fans have pointed out.

FIA Slammed by F1 Fans as Donald Trump carries around the MAGA cap in Miami GP paddock.

As soon as the pictures of Donald Trump arriving at the Miami GP surfaced and the fans noticed the MAGA cap in his hand, they took to Twitter to call FIA out for their double standards, as so far no action has been taken against Trump to express his political opinion on track and nor did anyone stop or ask him to not carry the MAGA cap inside the paddock.

Many were quick to point out the Lewis Hamilton incident with FIA from the 2020 Tuscan GP and they made a comparison to how Trump is being allowed to carry the cap.

Some suggested that FIA is no longer the morally strong organization that it was and that its morals have gone down the drain.

Then some recalled the rules that were implied last year of not allowing any political opinions on track and called FIA out for the same.
