It looked like the Mercedes AMG F1 team had turned a corner in the 2022 season at the Spanish GP. But they are back to their bouncing ways in Monaco and fighting against the midfield teams. 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton revealed that according to him, Ferrari and Charles Leclerc look incredibly strong.

Hamilton mentioned that if he was a fan, he would support Charles Leclerc this weekend. He also dropped another surprising statement by claiming that he is a Ferrari fan.

“You could see it. And I will add one thing: if I could sit with the fans over there, I would support Charles. I am a Ferrari fan,” said the Mercedes driver. Hamilton had previously revealed that he would not leave Mercedes for Ferrari because of his loyalty to the German team.
“You see what it says here: Loyalty. Of course, it would have been nice to race for Ferrari during my career, but things happen for specific reasons. Mercedes is my family. I will always be a Mercedes driver like Stirling Moss was,” said Lewis.

Ferrari holds an advantage over everyone in terms of performance, looking at the first two Free Practice sessions in Monaco. Commenting on his performance, Lewis described it as the bumpiest rollercoaster ever. The Mercedes W13 did not look stable on the streets of Monaco compared to other cars on the grid.

The British driver mentioned he had struggled to focus on the road as the bouncing was affecting his vision and even claimed his eyes would fall out of the socket. He revealed that putting a lap together is the task for them this season in Monaco.
“It’s the bumpiest the track’s ever been. It’s probably the bumpiest track I’ve ever driven. Putting a lap together is, wow, whole new ground. I don’t remember experiencing that before,” said Lewis.

“The grip doesn’t feel terrible, but it’s just eyeballs coming out of the sockets. As anticipated, I didn’t think we would be as quick as the Ferraris and Red Bulls. Our battle is to try and stay ahead of the McLarens,” said the Mercedes driver.

It would be interesting to see where both Hamilton and Russell would qualify if they are facing such major issues within the car. Fighting against the likes of McLaren was surely what they would not have been expecting heading into the weekend.
But with some overnight changes to the setup of the car, they could very well fix the issues ahead of the all-important qualifying session. Let’s see if they can improve the drivability of the car on Saturday.
