It is hard to believe that the all-conquering Mercedes AMG F1 Team is struggling in 2022. The German team find themselves in the no-man’s-land at the start of the season as they cannot fight for wins. But the 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton believes the team can win races in the upcoming races in 2022.

In the first 5 races this season, the German team has managed just two podium finishes with Lewis getting just one for himself in the season opener in Bahrain. It has been a struggle for them as they have not gotten an answer to their porpoising issue as of yet.

But the Mercedes driver is confident that with new upgrades in Barcelona, they can make a charge back to the top.
Lewis Hamilton showcases optimism in his Mercedes W13 ahead of the Spanish GP
Just like many other teams on the grid, Mercedes are also bringing new upgrades to their cars. They have brought a new floor to Barcelona. The floor of the W13 has been more of an Achilles heel for the Silver Arrows in 2022. However, Hamilton is optimistic that all the hard work that the team has showcased will pay off eventually in 2022.

“I think the potential is there to win in this car. Do I think it’s a championship-winning car? I don’t have the evidence to base that off just yet. I do believe that there is potential there for us to be fighting at the front,” said Lewis.
“It’s just we can’t unlock it right. The porpoising just ties our hands behind our backs and doesn’t allow us to extract that. Every weekend I arrive and I’m like ‘this could be the day’. I’m praying, I’m keeping hopes up on a weekly basis, on a daily basis. And just pure faith and trust in the team that we’re going to get there,” said the Mercedes driver.

It is nice to see that the 7-time world champion is still optimistic despite a tough start to the season. But it is hard to know whether he is truly optimistic or cautiously optimistic about the W13’s chances in 2022.
For now, the Mercedes camp need the new upgrades to work or the championship dream might be over for them. Let’s see if the new floor can solve their porpoising issues and give them some performance.
