Champion and advocate of social injustice, diversity, and mental health, Lewis Hamilton has inspired millions. The outspoken Briton has used his platform for years to bring attention to such causes. However, charity begins at home, and that’s exactly what happened with Hamilton’s outspoken nature.

Among the millions Hamilton has inspired so far, Toto Wolff is one of them. A fairly reserved and tight-lipped Toto Wolff also stands on a massive platform. Hence, the Austrian billionaire has also used his platform to share his own struggles.

While speaking to former F1 driver David Coulthard for Channel 4 Sport, Wolff shared the harsh realities of life. “Everybody has a certain degree of trauma — had events that were certainly hard to take. Whether it was some kind of rejection, humiliation or making feel inadequate. All this happened to me when I was a kid and then a young adult,” he revealed.

The Mercedes boss even credited Hamilton and Nico Rosberg for inspiring such open conversations. “I believe that by me being outspoken in the same way Lewis is and also Nico has been, it’s important to show that we are on tele and everything seems to be good for us but the truth is you can’t know what’s behind the scenes,” he added.

Wolff also revealed his desire to be a role model and inspire people to seek help. This is an important issue that goes often unnoticed, even with people living the glamorous life of Formula 1.

Not just Wolff, but even Hamilton has shared his mental health woes.

Back in April, Hamilton showcased exactly that with an Instagram post. The caption of the post read, “It has been such a tough year already with everything that’s happening around us, hard some days to stay positive. I have struggled mentally and emotionally for a long time.”

“To keep going is a constant effort but we have to keep fighting. We have so much to do and to achieve.”
