The porpoising in the Mercedes F1 team looked really bad throughout the Azerbaijan GP this weekend. The German team and their drivers have been complaining about the issue throughout the season.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said that every driver except one agreed that the issue is becoming a safety and health concern. Interestingly, he revealed that the only driver who did not agree that porpoising is a safety concern is Fernando Alonso.

Wolff mentioned that both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton have complained regularly about the issue.
Mercedes team boss calls porpoising a safety risk
The Austrian revealed he cannot speak for other drivers who are affected by the bottoming and can only defend his own drivers. He revealed that the issue has grown so much that external help of physios is also not making a difference.

“We’ve seen cars that don’t have the issue. And then others who have it have it worse, clearly. I can talk for our two drivers: they are having issues and it goes to a point that even a physio can’t fix it sometimes. So, we need to see how that develops. And understand also why it’s much tougher in some cars than in others,” said Toto.

It would be interesting to see if all the teams and drivers agree with Wolff on this issue. Hopefully, Mercedes can find an issue for the porpoising on their car very soon before it seriously causes any harm to their drivers.
