Formula 1 is actively working towards making the sport more sustainable. Most teams have taken this initiative as well on a personal level separate from the FIA and the F1 guidelines. Mercedes is one such example, switching to sustainable fuel to reduce its carbon footprint. Another interesting step the team has taken is to partner with TeamViewer.
TeamViewer is a software that was released in 2005. The basic application of the software is to give remote access and control of a computer and other devices. This feature of TeamViewer is helping the Silver Arrows make things more streamlined and effective during race weekends.

“We are racing 23 times around the world, around the globe [during the racing season], and our core team is just 90 engineers [with] 2,000 back at the factory,” said Toto Wolff. “Operating in the field, or we call it surgery in the field, TeamViewer is the only technology that allows us today in having the guy back at home look through the same borescope into the cylinder head, then [help] the mechanic on the field.”
Wolff explains how with the help of the software, the team is becoming more efficient and helping them cut down their carbon footprint. In fact, Wolff claims the team has cut its emissions by nearly 90% in recent years.
This could be hinted towards a more remote future for the Brackley outfit. Something Christian Horner accused Toto Wolff of earlier saying that the Austrian runs his team remotely.

Moreover, after the first year of the competition’s initiation, Hamilton’s team won the sustainability award. However, it was the fans that won the Brit the award. The sport’s main purpose is to raise awareness. So, for the sustainability award, the fans of a particular team had to complete tasks in the real world to earn the team points.
Hamilton’s fans gathered 792 out of a total of 3,906 steps. This resulted in the fans saving 1,506,207kg of carbon dioxide.
