From the mightiest highs to the overwhelming lows, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton have seen it all. The Silver Arrows and the boy from Stevenage have been on some ride together. Moreover, the journey doesn’t look to stop anytime soon as Lewis Hamilton teases a new contract extension with the 8-time constructor’s champions.

Mercedes showed some glimpses of its old self as they finished strongly with Hamilton and George Russell in Austin. They have been humbled by the pace of their rivals on quite a few occasions this season. However, in a much-needed respite, they brought out a competitive car in the US GP as they grabbed important points in their fight against Ferrari.

Furthermore, there might be more good news for Mercedes fans as Lewis Hamilton opens up about his contract situation. The 7-time title winner has been with the Silver Arrows for 9 years now. Additionally, having won 6 titles with them, it’s no surprise that Lewis is keen on extending his contract.

In an extended interview with Motorsport.com, Lewis revealed, “We are going to do another deal. We’re going to sit down and we’re going to discuss it in these next couple of months, I would say. My goal is to continue to be with Mercedes. I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13. And it really is my family: Mercedes-Benz is my family.”

He further added, “They’ve stuck with me through thick and thin. They stuck with me through being expelled at school. They stuck with me through everything that was going on through 2020. They’ve stuck with me through my mistakes, and shit that’s been in the press; they’ve stuck with me through the ups and downs.”

Lewis Hamilton does not expect Mercedes to win a GP this season

His incredible record of scoring a race win in his 15 years in F1 is likely to end this season. Lewis Hamilton has made it clear that he does not expect him or George Russell to win a race ahead of rivals Red Bull and Ferrari. Despite their excellent outing in Austin, the former McLaren driver believes their rivals are too good for them.

Lewis said, “I think we really need to be realistic. The Red Bull car has been the fastest car by far all year and it is still the fastest car”.

Furthermore, the Mercedes legend believes that Charles Leclerc or Sergio Perez would have been ahead of him if not for the reliability issues. Lewis also said they’d have started the race from the third row with Leclerc and Perez in contention.

He concluded, “It was great to start third and be in a position to fight, but on true pace they were ahead of us today and they will be the next three races.”
