Mercedes and Ferrari are the preseason favorites going into the 2022 season. Both manufacturers are eyeing to become world champions in the first season of the biggest regulation change in F1. As for now, The German team has 8 constructors’ titles while the Italian team has 16. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff mentioned that he would love to fight against Ferrari once again.

Mercedes and Ferrari went against each other from 2017 to 2019 in 3 tight seasons. Wolff recognized that the read team might be in stronger shape than most of its competitors. He also secretly revealed that, as a fan of the sport, he admires Ferrari.

“We have missed them in the last few years,”: Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff

As reported by Sky Sports, the Austrian hopes that not only Ferrari, but many more teams can fight in the upcoming season, Wolff considers Ferrari as the biggest name in the sport’s history.

“As a fan, I love Ferrari. They are the greatest name in Formula 1, and it cannot be that Ferrari is not competing for race victories and titles. Winning championships is something different. Many things have come together to achieve that, but I think for all of us fans of the sport, Ferrari needs to be in the mix,” said the Mercedes Team Boss.

“We have missed them in the last few years. The passion of everyone at Ferrari and also for the Tifosi in Italy, it’s important to see that the car is competitive. So I hope there will be a few teams this year able to win races, fighting hard on the track,” Toto added.

From 2017 to 2019, Mercedes did topple the Italian team on each occasion. But Ferrari gave the world champions a run for the money. It would be amazing to see both teams fighting it out once again in the new regulations and challenging each other for the championship.
