The 2021 season finale will go down as arguably the most controversial ending to a Formula One season. The last lap drama captured the attention of the audience all across the world. But because of the controversial nature of the last lap drama, FIA sacked the race director Michael Masi for his involvement. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner sympathized with the Australian after his sack.

Horner revealed that Masi got death threats after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. There has been a lot of criticism thrown towards the former raise director for denying Lewis Hamilton his eighth title in the sport.

Lack of support that was shown to Michael was disappointing: Christian Horner

As reported by the Independent, the Red Bull team boss mentioned the death threats received by Michael Masi and his family. He also pointed out that the race director got little to no support from the sport after the incident.

“The lack of support that was shown to Michael was disappointing, especially at a time when mental health is so prevalent. To hear that his family and he received death threats is not right,” said Horner.

“An awful lot of pressure was put on the FIA to deal with him. And I made it clear in last week’s meeting in London that there should have been more support for him.

“I was disappointed that nobody shared that opinion. I have had an exchange with Michael to wish him well. But the whole experience was very, very tough for him,” said the Red Bull team principal.

Horner had been vouching for the retention of Masi as race director. But he got little to no support from the other teams regarding this matter. But it is nice to see him expressing his concern regarding the personal welfare of the former race director.

Despite his involvement in the controversial call in Abu Dhabi, Michael does not deserve to receive death threats. Hopefully, he gets a new role within the governing body, which properly utilizes his experience in motorsports.
