In this age of social media, it’s very easy to become a meme. George Russell’s venture to try a new pose for the F1 introduction made him meme material overnight. However, the Briton has now come out explaining the story behind the pose. And that’s not all, as he learns a thing or two from his teammate and preaches a lesson learned from the aid incident. What is the story behind the meme and what does Russell preach?

Every year before the F1 season starts, the drivers have to pose for the customary introduction. While every driver brings their A-game to look the best, George Russell had other ideas in mind. The Briton was seen resting his hands on the screen on either side, looking down. The F1 community jumped at the opportunity to make George Russell a victim of the F1 meme society. People photoshopped George Russell’s image everywhere and anywhere that they could.

The reason behind George Russell posing that way remained a secret until the Briton opened up about it in a recent podcast. The 25-year-old suggested the scenario under which the shot was taken. He explained the different poses he had to make for the camera doing all sorts of things. The videographer asked for a little break and Russell posed in that specific pose because he was tired, resting his hands on the screen and hanging his head down.

According to the Fast and the Curious podcast, George Russell said “Well, to give some context on these days, we’d go to a studio doing all sorts of different poses. Look down, look up, cross your arms, hands on hips, look away from the camera then look into the camera. Doing all sorts of things. After doing a couple of my poses, you know the standard stuff, the videographer needed 30 seconds to reset. I was pretty tired so I put my hands on either side of the led board to sort of rest and just chill out. Just hung my head down, been a long day. And the guy was like yeah I like that, do that again”

Lewis Hamilton is an activist and socialist who preaches about rights and life lessons. Taking a page out of his book, George Russell preached a lesson learned from the unexpected nature of the pose. He explained how the pose wasn’t even planned and how he was just taking a breather. The lesson to be learned is how the best things in life come without trying hard and the harder we chase something, the harder it gets to achieve.
