For the second year in a row, the McLaren F1 team has had an extremely poor start to the season. The team back in Woking has been behind their developmental targets again. There are no excuses for it, however, McLaren has one. According to the team’s principal, Andrea Stella, there is one major factor limiting the team’s performance and output. The Italian is talking about McLaren’s wind tunnel, which has been under construction for quite a while now and even saw some delay. However, the fans are not buying this explanation.

McLaren has had a topsy-turvy outing in the current campaign so far, but they have pinpointed the problem. Although the Italian boss believes the team will see an instant uptick in performance once they move into their new wind tunnel. He communicated this belief to Auto Motor Und Sport.

“Unfortunately, it’s not that easy to tackle the problems. But we now know the problem and have already geared our development towards it,” said Stella. However, the weakness of the long curves has become part of McLaren’s DNA for a long time now, which will change once McLaren gets to work in the new wind tunnel.

“With our new wind tunnel, which will soon be available to us, we should be able to collect more representative data. Hopefully, we’ll be smarter in a few months, if we can compare the results of the first runs with the data from the last few years.”

However, the fans don’t agree with this theory and all have one example in mind to disprove it.

Fans disprove the theory of the McLaren boss with the example of Red Bull

The fans did not agree with the theory of the McLaren boss. In fact, the fans unanimously disproved Stella’s theory with an example of Red Bull. Why Red Bull? Because the Milton Keynes-based outfit has one of the oldest wind tunnels amongst all the teams on the grid. Despite that, they have clearly set the standard, and every race weekend in the current campaign is proof of that.

The fans pointed this exact scenario out while reacting to this news.

The general theme of the reactions to the news was of fans giving the Red Bull example. Moreover, even the fans know a new wind tunnel won’t bring changes overnight, and these comments by the boss insinuating it is clearly unacceptable to the fans.
