Lando Norris began the 2020 Formula 1 season with his maiden podium at the Austrian Grand Prix. Norris became the 3rd-youngest driver ever to stand on a Grand Prix podium.
The first race of the season saw Lewis Hamilton, the 6-time world champion, finish outside the Top-3; a rare sight indeed. He was demoted from P2 to P4 after he was slapped with a time penalty for contact with Alex Albon.
However, the Silver Arrows seem to have found their way back to the top of the food chain. Mercedes have already won the Constructors’ Championship. While Lewis Hamilton is on the cusp of his 7th championship this weekend at Turkey.

Lando Norris explained how to change the Formula 1 show for the better
Norris acknowledged that one team has been doing a much better job than the rest of the grid. However, he also pointed out, “We have a lot of good races in midfield. Between Renault, Racing Point, Alpha Tauri and us, the races are great every weekend.”
Lando Norris believes that these battles in the mid-field are essential in keeping the races interesting. So far in the races, the Mercedes drivers along with Max Verstappen have managed to gain significant times over the rest of the grid.
Norris explained how to change Formula 1 racing. “If you really want to change racing, you need cars that can follow each other at a much smaller distance.”
According to him, this is not happening currently, and that sometimes ruins the excitement of racing. “If you can stay close and not lose 1.5 seconds per lap while following, then the races would be much better – and the tires,” added the McLaren driver.

Lando explained that drivers are required to keep their tires in check. He explained, “But that’s fake racing. We want to give 100 percent and then race against each other. And don’t drive the car or the tires in a certain way and then fight.”
“That’s why it deserves the success. On the other hand, Formula 1 makes it boring. The show is suffering. If we want to improve something, we need the battles between four or five cars in midfield at the top”
Meanwhile, the drivers’ standings and the constructors’ standings are currently breathing life into a vicious mid-field battle. The drivers’ standings have P4, P5 and P6 within 13 points.
