After the controversial 2021 season, Formula One is entering the next stage. But the upcoming 2022 season won’t be the same as last year because FIA has introduced major rules and regulations that now take the sport in a whole new different direction. Recently, McLaren Strategy and Sporting Director revealed one of those new regulations is regarding the new 18 inch tires.

Undoubtedly, F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports. Therefore, the governing body FIA is trying their best to improve the sport and make it more interesting. In light of this, the FIA has introduced new rules and regulations for the 2022 season.

Even before the end of the 2021 season, fans have been talking about the rules and regulations of the 2022 season. There were speculations that the upcoming 2022 season will revolve around the car designs and performance.

On this front, we recently saw McLaren Strategy and Sporting Director, Randeep Singh, give fans a huge insight into the upcoming season’s tire regulations.

In the previous seasons, every driver, who made it to Q3, was supposed to start Sunday’s race on the tires with which he had completed his fastest lap in Q2. However, according to Randeep Singh’s Tweet, F1 teams, in the 2022 season, will have the freedom to start the race on the compound of their choice.

What are McLaren’s 2022 plans?

McLaren has one of the biggest legacies in the sport. However, they recently have not been in the position to fight for the title. In the previous years, they have mostly competed against Ferrari for the third-place finish. But, this time around, fans have witnessed McLaren pushing their limits and they are expecting more.

McLaren finished fourth in the 2021 season with 275 points on the Constructor Standings. However, the Woking-based team is over the 2021 season and looking forward to the upcoming season. They recently unveiled their 2022 challenger, MCL36M, which they believe would be able to get more podium finishes this season.

The young McLaren prodigy Lando Norris had a phenomenal season, finishing sixth on the table; meanwhile, the Honey Badger Daniel Ricciardo had a tough time at the first half but he soon got his form back and finished eighth with 115 points.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown is confident that both his drivers will perform phenomenally this season. Norris would continue to grow and push his limits further; meanwhile, Ricciardo has settled in the team and will show his skills this season on the grid.

Soon Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo will take the McLaren 2022 challenger, for the pre-season testing at Barcelona on February 23-25. It will be worth looking out for the Papaya cars this season, as they might shock everyone with their performance.
