As a new season inches ever so closer to kicking off, F1 fans go through the ritual of slowly building up the hype within themselves for the new campaign. A big part in getting the adrenaline pumping is through either driver announcements or new car reveals. While the F1 grid for for 2021 is all but confirmed, teams are slowly revealing their car launch dates. The latest to the party being McLaren.

The Woking-based outfit took to Twitter to tease fans over their car launch. In a 15-second video, McLaren display the date for the launch in bold (February 15, 19:00 GMT) with the team’s traditional colors of Orange along with shades of blue in the blurred background hinting at the possible livery of the new machine.

On the previous day, the team had also teased its fans to the sound of the new Mercedes engine.

In doing so, McLaren became the second F1 team to reveal the date of their car launch. The first to do so was Alfa Romeo, who revealed their launch date to be February 22. The Hinwil-based outfit also revealed what their 2021 car would be called, the C41.

Fans will not only get to see the new car on the date of the launch but will also see their new driver Daniel Ricciardo donning the team’s colors. Of course, fan-favorite Lando Norris would be there too.

As for the new McLaren machine, it will be known as the MCL35M. McLaren didn’t decide to go with a drastically different name from last season because of the freezing of car development.

As a result, the overall chassis would be the same, albeit with a few minor tweaks in order to comply with the new aerodynamic rules. These rules were brought in place to reduce the pressure on the tires.

The MCL35M’s predecessor had quite the success in F1 last year. Under the command of Norris and Carlos Sainz, the car achieved two podium finishes and helped the team finish as the unofficial ‘best of the rest,’ bagging 202 points.

Fans would hope to see the new machine deliver the same, if not better, results in 2021. And equipped with a Mercedes engine and two class drivers, there’s no reason to believe why they can’t.
