No matter who says what, one cannot separate the man from the machine in this world of Formula 1. The driver is the face of the operation, but the task can never be achieved without superior machinery. This is why the discussion of a “championship-winning car” is omnipresent in F1. Currently, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that is the Red Bull car. Taking nothing away from Max Verstappen, the RB19 is a league of its own. Verstappen is putting it there with his racing capabilities as both go hand in hand. However, if there was another driver, apart from Sergio Perez, who would fit perfectly and even potentially become an annoyance for Verstappen in the Red Bull car, who would it be? F1 veteran Peter Windsor has a candidate but also a warning for the said candidate.

The candidate is none other than McLaren‘s Oscar Piastri. The rookie has been phenomenal in the current season so far, and Windsor is an admirer. So when answering a question about who he would put in the contentious second Red Bull seat, the journalist picked Piastri among others but also had a warning for the Australian.

To answer the first part of the question, Windsor said, “I don’t think he’d want Oscar in the other car.”

He then addressed if a driver with the same driving style part would be able to beat Verstappen. “If you think about it, Oscar Piastri is a good example. I think Oscar probably has the level of natural talent that Max has,” he added. Windsor continued to compliment the rookie and even foresaw him as a multiple world champion given the right car. However, the compliments were followed by a warning.

“But if he went to Red Bull in two years’ time, of course, Max will destroy him because Max has got experience, he knows the team, he knows everything about. There is no way in the world Oscar will beat Max in a Red Bull over a season. He might beat him in a qualifying session or even a race or two,” he concluded.

So, according to Windsor, even if you have the talents and opportunity, be wise about the timing. For Oscar Piastri to join Red Bull now would not be short of a disaster because he will be more frustrated by Verstappen than his current teammate.

In fact, after his recent races, some are putting Piastri up for the Red Bull adoption instead of his previously rumored teammate.

Pushing Lando Norris aside, Oscar Piastri chosen as the right fit to drive alongside Max Verstappen

Lando Norris solidified the opinion of the entire F1 world surrounding him ever since the British GP podium. However, soon after that, his rookie teammate also started attracting positive attention. The rookie has been phenomenal, and many believe he will be a thorn in Norris’s sight soon enough.

To prove that, former boss Eddie Jordan believes if he were in charge he would hire Piastri instead of Norris for the second Red Bull seat. The seat everyone has an eye for, but only a few are linked with.

Jordan revealed, “Way back in the late 80s with Johnny Herbert and he was managed by Mark Webber’s wife. I’ve had that relationship and understood and I thought she was probably the best and most professional manager of any sports person that I’ve come across. So she tipped me off and said ‘Listen I have to tell you this guy is the real deal.’ I think he is the real deal.”

“Full marks to McLaren, they signed him till 2026 because they needed to, because he will be a sought-after driver. If I was in Red Bull and I was thinking of replacing Checo, he’d be the one I’d have in my mind,” he confessed.
