“I would like to do it in the future. Maybe when Max (Verstappen, ed.) is tired of winning, he can come to McLaren,” jokes Norris. He also addressed the second driver position with simple logic and said, “You only are if you lose to him.”[Translated by Google]

Confidence in oneself is a basic prerequisite for all F1 drivers and Norris perfectly communicated that with his statement. The Brit is definitely not second-driver material, even if it’s against mighty Max Verstappen. In fact, everyone at McLaren, including Norris, believes he’s best placed to achieve his goals.

Ever since the British GP, there is a newfound hope back in Woking as the glory years might come rolling back. Thanks to Lando Norris, McLaren is starting to believe again. However, because of Norris’s heroics, the Brit has become a potential target for Red Bull to fill their second seat in Perez’s stead. Regardless of what the future holds, this mid-season upgrade has rejuvenated McLaren’s confidence in themselves. The CEO Zak Brown was oozing of the same confidence while talking about Norris’s immediate future.

While speaking to the media, Brown promised even Norris could foresee himself opening his F1 race winner account. Brown said, “Lando is ready to win. But I think he now sees signs that it’s coming. We keep him very in the know of everything that’s going on.”

There is a lot of hope and high expectations but will McLaren be able to deliver and stop this Verstappen onslaught? Highly unlikely! However, one can never discount any scenario in this fickle sport.
