The Formula 1 drivers put up an amazing show at the ‘Temple of Speed’. The big battle was Red Bull vs. Ferrari in which the former came out on top, like a cake-walk. But there was another thrilling battle in the midfield and that was the battle for P7, between Alex Albon and Lando Norris. Can you imagine that? A Williams not only fought a McLaren but also left them biting the dust. It was an absolute embarrassment for Norris as he walked away red-faced after losing to Albon. The Italian GP ended after 51 laps but the war of words between the duo was to follow.

The sheer straight-line speed of the Williams – absolute rocket ship. The MCL60 looked like an F2 car stuck behind FW45 for laps on end. The McLaren’s top speed was no match for the Williams’ as Alex Albon cruised for his best finish of the season. As if the battle lost on-track wasn’t enough, the McLaren ace’s interview was interrupted by Albon.

Initially, it was just Norris speaking with Will Buxton. He was breaking down the highlights (or should we say low lights) while praising Williams. He said, “It was a fun one. Didn’t have the pace to get past Alex. Hats off to him to not make a mistake for that long. Williams is the quickest on the straights. Any other car…” This is when Albon gatecrashed the interview with a mic in his hand. Seeing him interrupting, Norris couldn’t control himself and sheepishly told the Thai racer to “Get out” and that he “doesn’t want him here”.

Eventually, both of them laughed it out, making for some good banter for fans. But the competitor in Albon didn’t hold back. He had some insults of his own that he served wrapped up in a roll of humor.

Alex Albon humorously trashes Lando Norris and McLaren for being the “slowest” at the Italian GP

The Williams, which was the slowest car on the grid till last year, is now the fastest. Not overall, but on the straights, they are the car to emulate. On the other hand, the McLaren is the slowest on the straights. So, when Norris asked Albon to get out, the latter brought out the big guns and made fun of the MCL60 for being slow.

Albon said, “We had these straight-line speed deltas between different teams. We are by far the quickest and McLaren is by far, the slowest. That pretty much happens in every race that we go. My strategists always say, ‘As long as you are in front of a McLaren, it’s gonna be really hard for them to pass you’. Basically, our pre-race strategy was to have a train of McLaren cars behind me for the whole race.”

Both the drivers sounded jocular as they unleashed jabs at each other. But in the end, considering that they are good friends, all is well.
