Currently on this course is the McLaren driver Lando Norris who is pursuing Max Verstappen with a thunderous warning after easily chasing down Lewis Hamilton in the upgraded MCL60.

Last year, Alpine defeated McLaren in a fight that lasted till the final race, while the papaya army has risen to the top this year in the midst of the campaign. The team has achieved excellence, which even they hadn’t predicted, thanks to both of their drivers performing better than they did last year. Oscar Paistri and Norris have risen in the rankings due to their incredible performances, which began at the Austrian Grand Prix.

However, after missing the target (podiums) at the Austrian GP, the Bristol native eventually caught up to Lewis Hamilton at his home race. And now, while driving his upgraded Mclaren, Lando Norris decided to threaten Max Verstappen‘s dominance by issuing a resounding warning.

Norris’ points total increased as a result of the MCL 60’s progress and with that, it also put an end to rumors that he was switching teams. Norris previously expressed how much he enjoyed driving the modified car and now in light of that, he has dared to challenge Max Verstappen’s dominance.

The 23-year-old said out loud, warning to the 45 Grand Prix winner as per a tweet by @TheMcLarenZone, “ These are very positive signs that we can jump ahead of Aston, jump ahead of Ferrari, fight against Mercedes.” He also added how the team is just one upgrade away from challenging the Austrian team as he said, “and not be far off a Red Bull from one upgrade.”

Despite consistently being on the podium, Norris and the team still yearn for a Grand Prix victory. So the enormous strides that the papaya army has brought be enough to accomplish their upcoming goals? Can the Woking-based company overcome its biggest challenge?

McLaren has been a legendary Formula One team. However, the team hasn’t been able to repeat its success over the last 15 years. And another factor states since Daniel Ricciardo’s victory in 2021, the team has been without a victory in a Grand Prix. The Woking-based team has advanced significantly, but it won’t be straightforward for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to win a Grand Prix since the man who has already won 10 of the 12 races this season stands in their way.

For instance, Verstappen may be closest to Norris and his crew, but the Dutch driver still has an enormous lead over the rest of the pack. And according to a former F1 team boss, Dutchman may present the greatest obstacle for the British driver to tackle.

As per the Formula For Success podcast, Eddie Jordon said, “Hmm, winning grands prix at McLaren, first they have to overcome Red Bull. And the next biggest hurdle after that is the likes of Max Verstappen, which is not going to be an easy task, never. He’s fast emerging to be the greatest driver of all time. I think there’s no doubt about that.”
