If you asked them all, there wouldn’t be a single driver in the history of Formula 1 who wouldn’t want his name etched in the sport’s history books. However, there are some who have made records that they wouldn’t be proud of. For example, Charles Leclerc holds the unfortunate record of having the most pole positions without a championship. And in the last race in Melbourne, Lando Norris added himself to the list of unfortunate record holders. He now has the most podiums in Formula 1 (14) without a victory to his name. However, Eddie Jordan claims that with a little more belief in himself, he could be the next British world champion after Lewis Hamilton.
To make things even worse for Lando Norris, he is now also the driver with the most F1 championship points (660) without a win, surpassing the previous record holder Nico Hulkenberg. Additionally, Norris has also matched Nick Heidfeld’s streak of five consecutive podium-finishing seasons without a victory. As impressive and yet unfortunate as the records themselves may sound, there’s little doubt in the wider F1 community that Lando Norris is a championship-caliber driver.
Maybe not a record he wants to hold but Lando Norris has officially recorded the most podiums without a win in F1 history:

And according to recent comments from ex F1 team boss, Eddie Jordan, all Norris needs is more belief in himself. “I just want to see more fight there,“ Jordan said on the Formula For Success podcast. “I want to see more viciousness. I want to see; could he have won any of those 14 Grands Prix [in which he scored a podium]? I think he might have won one or two of them. But I just want to see more action, real fight, real determination.”
He concluded, “And I think when he gets that, remember what was the standout feature of Nigel Mansell, it was belief. He believed he could beat anybody, anybody! And the fact is that his talent was possibly nowhere near as good as some of the guys that he was beating. Because mentally, in his mind no one could pass him, that was it. I just want to see more of that wild belief and commitment and passion in Lando. And you could be surprised, we could be looking at another British world champion because he’s that good”.
Having come so close to winning races in 2023 with multiple second-place finishes, Norris is upbeat about his chances in 2024.

Lando Norris sets himself the target of a race win before 2026
Norris recently secured his future in the sport by signing a contract extension with McLaren until at least 2027. This move reflects his ambition to pursue his dream of winning the F1 World Championship. Despite McLaren’s significant progress, Norris remains cautious about setting overly high expectations in the near future. While the team has shown promising signs, particularly in challenging Red Bull Racing, Norris emphasizes the importance of being realistic about their chances.
“If you asked me, ‘Do you think you can win races this year?’ I’d probably be more inclined to say yes,“ Norris told Motorsport.com. “But to go straight into, ‘can you win races and a championship?’ I think that’s another level both for myself because racing at the very top is not something I’ve necessarily done for a while, but also for the whole team, for everyone here in the factory… The championship, as much as I would love to say over the next two years, ’26 is an opportunity for everyone on the grid. So that’s the big, big question mark.”
