Hot off the track! McLaren, once lagging behind this season, has turned the tables by unveiling an impressive upgraded version of the MCL60, making them podium regulars. A tip of the hat to the team’s radical concept switch and some behind-the-scenes shuffling. The dynamic duo of Lando Norris and rookie sensation Oscar Piastri gave Max Verstappen a run for his money in Japan and Qatar. Not just tailgating, but overtaking too! Double podiums in both Grands Prix and a snazzy sprint race win by Piastri in Losail? Someone’s got the wind beneath their wings!

The result? McLaren now trails Aston Martin by a mere 11 points, and hold your horses, even Ferrari‘s third spot looks a tad shaky with a 79-point lead. With five weekends left (and don’t forget the sprints!), Norris ponders, “It’s doable, I think so.”

But hold your horsepower! Norris clarifies this isn’t a sign of overconfidence from the Woking camp. He swiftly clarified, I think we’re definitely not overconfident. We’re confident, I think we need to be, but we know there are still going to be some races where we’re not going to be quite as strong.”

Looks like the race to supremacy is heating up! Ferrari, led by the talented Charles Leclerc, should definitely keep an eye on that rearview mirror. The McLaren is coming, and they’re not here to play second fiddle!

And before we go, don’t you feel Norris wears his heart on his racing sleeve? But is he a tad too self-critical?

Lando Norris: The balancing act of self-criticism

At the Qatar Grand Prix, Norris, who stormed from 10th to a podium finish and grabbed a third in the sprint, while rookie team-mate Oscar Piastri took top honors, was surprisingly self-deprecating. Believe it or not, despite these commendable feats, Norris remarked he did “another bad job” in Saturday’s sprint and felt a sting watching Piastri’s win, thinking he should have been on the pole for both qualifying sessions. Ouch!

Enter McLaren’s wise team principal, Andrea Stella, a veteran who has rubbed shoulders with legends like Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, and Fernando Alonso. His advice for Norris? Ease up on the self-deprecation.

In a candid chat with the press in Qatar, Stella expressed, “Lando is such an honest person…He doesn’t want to look arrogant. But…you need to find the right balance…in terms of communication to the world and…to yourself.”

He emphasized that while champions own their mistakes, it’s essential to know when to keep those frustrations private. Stella hopes Norris learns to find that sweet spot between being “honest” and being “harsh”.
