Formula 1’s annual trip to Monza—home of the Italian GP—is one of the most anticipated race weekends on the calendar, primarily because of the racing excitement and on-track action it never fails to deliver. Even more so than any regular F1 fan, it’s the Tifosi—Ferrari’s dedicated fans—who look forward to the Scuderia’s home race, hoping and praying for a good result. Although every trip to the Temple of Speed since Charles Leclerc’s 2019 win has been somewhat of a letdown for Ferrari, it never stops hyping its visit up. As Ferrari teased a new element of its racing gear for Monza, Lando Norris couldn’t help but give his two cents.

To pay tribute to Ferrari’s history, the Maranello-based team added splashes of yellow—a nod to Modena, the town Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari grew up in—to its otherwise red chassis for the 2022 Italian GP. Additionally, Carlos Sainz and Leclerc wore yellow race suits, too. This year, to honor Ferrari’s Le Mans victory, the Ferrari boys will feature a band of yellow on their race suits in a similar fashion to the suits the Le Mans drivers wore. After Ferrari released pictures of Leclerc and Sainz wearing the suits, Norris posed a question that infuriated Ferrari’s 4.6 million Twitter followers, just days after he left British fans seething.

On a Twitch stream with his friend Max Fewtrell, Norris saw the pictures of Ferrari’s suit for the Italian GP this weekend and asked, “Do you think the Ferrari stuff looks more like McDonald’s this year than it did last year?” Fewtrell replied, “Yeah, I’m not a big fan of their suits.” Red and yellow, used together, have become synonymous with the fast-food giant McDonald’s. It was only natural for Norris to make that connection, but the Tifosi obviously couldn’t and wouldn’t look past the insult.

Lando Norris needs to “get behind” his fans to hide from the incoming wrath

When Ferrari released the pictures of Leclerc and Sainz on Monday, most of F1 Twitter said the same thing: the race suit looks like a McDonald’s employee’s uniform. But because this was Norris saying it, and because it’s become common for the F1 community to give him hell for his jokes, the Tifosi didn’t spare him. Twitteratis other than the Tifosi, though, predicted what was coming his way, and some of his fans offered to protect him.

One Ferrari fan insulted McLaren’s livery after hearing Norris compare the race suits to a McDonald’s uniform and pointed out the fact that Norris has no wins in F1, calling him “Nowins.”

Many users write how Norris would get “dragged” by the Tifosi because of this.

Another fan alluded to him being brave for making this comment and predicted the army of Ferrari fans coming for him.

Because of the jokes he frequently makes every time he’s online on Twitch, one fan mentioned how they are scared for Norris.

One Norris fan offered to be his human shield, anticipating the wrath coming his way.

While most users wrote how he won’t escape the hell Tifosi unleashes on him, many users were on Norris’ side, agreeing with his comments.
