McLaren‘s new kid on the block, Oscar Piastri, is taking the Formula 1 paddock by storm. And boy, oh boy, is he doing it in style! With his transition into the iconic orange and blue McLaren, Piastri’s meteoric rise has been nothing short of jaw-dropping. Gone are the days when Daniel Ricciardo was the talk of the town; now, all eyes are on the young Aussie as he fills in the shoes left by Daniel, and does it so effortlessly.

Let’s talk numbers. Piastri has been raking in about two-thirds of the points Lando Norris has, which, between you and me, is a lot better than Ricciardo’s record in a similar time frame. And if you thought Norris was feeling the heat, you’re bang on! Lando has been candid enough to admit that Piastri’s speed has given him a few more grey hairs than Daniel did. Adding to this spicy tale, the McLaren chief, Andrea Stella, spilled some tea suggesting that while Norris might still have the upper hand this season, Piastri’s mind-boggling form is causing a touch of ‘discomfort’ for the British heartthrob. But hey, all in the name of friendly competition, right?

And then came the cherry on top. Renowned F1 connoisseur, Peter Windsor, recently took to YouTube to share his two cents on rookies needing a year to adjust to F1. Windsor’s take? Complete hogwash! Drawing attention to Piastri, Windsor said, “Look at Oscar. He’s actually a lot better now than Daniel, and he’s, uh, not as a direct comparison, but I think he’s doing much better in the McLaren than Daniel would have been, and, uh, he’s, you know, slightly better than Lando, isn’t he? He’s in his first year of Formula One.

And he didn’t stop there. Citing legends like Jackie Stewart and Mario Andretti, who sparkled in their rookie years, Windsor debunked the rookie myth. He added, “You don’t need a year to get used to Formula One, not if you’re good.” So, whether you’re Team Lando, Team Daniel, or have just hopped onto the Piastri bandwagon, one thing’s for certain – this season is serving us some scorching McLaren drama, and we’re here for it!

Fresh off two stellar seasons where Norris had Daniel Ricciardo playing catch-up, things took a twist this season. Youngster Piastri is now keeping Norris on his toes. Their escalating rivalry recently got showcased when the duo snagged back-to-back second and third places in Japan and Qatar. And just when we thought it couldn’t get more exciting, Piastri clinched his first Formula 1 victory in Qatar, leaving Norris, well, a tad ‘hurt’.

“I’m very happy for the team. I’m happy for Oscar. He beat me to a win so congrats to him. Of course, it’s never the nicest feeling. It hurts me.” Norris shared candidly with Sky F1. While many might see this as just a rookie outshining the veteran, McLaren’s team boss, Andrea Stella, sees it differently. He believes that this sting is exactly what Norris needs. According to him, you don’t encounter talents like Piastri every day, and while he’s setting a high bar, it’s a golden chance for Norris to up his game.
