A Williams faster than the McLaren – What a sight to behold. Williams has been the slowest car on the grid in the last few years. Despite that, both the McLarens could not make it past Alex Albon’s FW45 till the end of the race. After the end of the dissatisfying race, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri looked very disappointed. But the no-so-good thing about their attitude was that they looked like they had accepted their ill fate.
It was a considerable step ahead for McLaren as both drivers started in the top 10 in Canada. Norris started P7 and rookie teammate, Piastri, started P8. But that did not help them as both drivers slid out of the Top 10 by the end of the race. Norris actually finished P9, but owing to a 5-second penalty was pushed to P13. Though fans felt that the 5-second penalty was a harsh one, they slammed McLaren for a poor showing.
No points but it’s not all bad. 😊 They’re hungry to bounce back next time! 💪 @LandoNorris @OscarPiastri #CanadianGP 🇨🇦 pic.twitter.com/MHR8re1jBK

In a video that McLaren shared on their Twitter page, the drivers shared their views and broke down the difficulties during the race. Despite a pointless outing for McLaren, they decided to look at the positives. But for fans, the positives looked made up because nothing had actually gone their way in Montreal. In the video shared on Twitter, both drivers said that it was a “shame that they did not score points.”
While fans understood Norris’ views, they were quick to dish out criticism at CEO Zak Brown and McLaren.
Fans Sympathize with Lando Norris But Slam Zak Brown and McLaren
Team Principal Andrea Stella felt that the team was competitive, but luck was not on their side. After the race, he said “It’s a shame to leave Canada with no points at the end of a race where we were keenly competitive in the midfield. Lando crossed the line P9 but was penalized five seconds and demoted to P13, which is unfortunate.”
But no such comments helped as fans wanted Brown to take accountability for the horrendous season. While a few fans sympathized with Norris, the overall theme of responses was McLaren being a “Dumpster fire of a team.”
McLaren is so unserious bro youre one of the most successful teams ever and youre here like "no points but its not all bad" https://t.co/QECjLXSzdb

No points, useless team. Get rid of Zac

Just as they speak, they really don't give a damn about us fans, they are there to comment but they are obliged

Hardly any points!!! Can see why our rivals laugh at us when some of our fans are happy and celebrating overtakes which then makes the rest of us look stupid… It’s also not fair on the boys who have to drive this 🚜…

Lando was doing well as usual but the car’s pace in the straights was horrible. A McLaren could not pass an Alfa even with DRS. Yes, the cars are closer together this year in terms of speed but McLaren being stucked behind a Haas or an Alfa is painful to watch.

Lando deserves better than the car you lot give him

What a dumpster fire of a team. No accountability, no ability to perform, no desire to improve, same results as always and same line as always, go look after every race “we’ll take the positives and go back and build on it”… lies
— Corban (@corbancor) June 18, 2023
Christ what positives, lucky to not get an unsafe release penalty, then Lando / team do get a penalty for another stupid issue.
Both started top 10 and finish with no points!
Last race Lando drives into the back of someone and no points from 3rd!?— MarkB (@breadbin68) June 18, 2023

Feels like I say this after every race but zak brown and the board need to resign to halt the slide and give the team a chance to get back to the front, maybe get a works deal they deserve. This won’t happen while the current leadership is in place!!

McLaren has 2 drivers that are champion-material, but neither of them is able to even score decent points. The team has only 17 points after 8 races. But McLaren’s stakeholders still believe that they are getting better. And their next opportunity to show progress is the Austrian GP.
