McLaren saved the best for the last. No, it’s not about a performance package that the papaya team has introduced for the last race in the season. The subject here is the stunning livery that McLaren will run in the Abu Dhabi GP.

For those who think the Gulf livery from Monaco was stunning, they need to take a look at this Abu Dhabi one. It’s incredibly eye-catching, poppy and has an abstract psychedelic aesthetic that really blends in with the iconic orange.

According to their official website, this livery is part of the Driven For Change collaboration with their partner, Vuse. The bespoke design is courtesy of Rabab Tantawy. She is a UAE based emerging artist who collaborated with McLaren’s automotive media designer.

Claire Cronin, the Chief Marketing Officer of the British team said, “Driven by Change is a unique opportunity to use our global stage to support rising talent, giving undiscovered creatives the platform they deserve.”

“Rabab’s art is inspiring, and we are proud to take her papaya-influenced creation racing this weekend.”

Driver Daniel Ricciardo took a look at the new design and gave his emphatic approval. He said“That’s awesome. I really like it, it blends as well. It’s kind of an evolution of what we already run. It actually kind of leads through to the exhaust, that’s cool, I really like that.”

McLaren will need an amazing result in their amazing one-off livery

During one point in the season, the Woking based outfit was looking strong. So strong that they were in pole position to finish in third place in the championship. Yet, in the last leg of the season, they lost steam. And the team quickly went down to their knees against an ascending Ferrari.

Currently, they are trailing Ferrari by 38.5 points. While this is indeed a big gap to overcome in one race, it’s still not impossible. But, the papaya team will require some luck.

Even if both Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo finish ‘as high as they can,’ it’ll be extremely difficult to make up the deficit.

So, whether McLaren’s result under the lights in Abu Dhabi outshines Ferrari in the championship is uncertain for now. But what’s certain is the beauty of the one-off livery on the MCL35M compared to the rest of the grid.
