There has been an increase in the murmurs around the paddock regarding the future of Mick Schumacher. But if things work out the right way, then we could soon see him in an F1 car next year.
A lot was made about his links to both Alfa Romeo and Haas, in what has been an incredible drivers’ market carousel so far. But the former is no longer an option, as the Swiss-based team have confirmed their existing drivers’ lineup for 2021.
However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown in an interview recently stated that he was looking forward to seeing ‘Schumi Junior’ in F1 for 2021. And he mentioned Haas as the most likely destination.

Mick Schumacher will have to live up to his last name, says Brown
The McLaren CEO stated, “It’s going to be good to have him in the sport next year. I believe he will be in a Haas Formula 1 car, he seems to be a good talent.”
“Lot to live up to when your last name is Schumacher. But no doubt he will put on a good show.” said Brown.
The 21-year-old Ferrari academy junior had initially had a free practice debut scheduled with Alfa Romeo during the Eifel GP. But that never materialized, considering the session got canceled owing to terrible weather.
Regardless, the Scuderia’s academy has long talked about firming up a decision on which junior will make the step up to F1 next year. Haas’ affiliation with Ferrari, means they would look to offer a seat to one of their young drivers.

‘Schumi Junior’ has been primed for an F1 seat for some time now
When some of sport’s biggest names continue talking about Mick, you would imagine he is the most likely junior to get into F1. The links have emerged and stayed on ever since late August, from the time Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto spoke about him.
Haas are also yet to announce their drivers’ lineup, considering they have now let go of both drivers for next year. And rumors are strong that fellow F2 junior Nikita Mazepin will join Mick in the other seat.

Regardless, Mick’s current obligations lie with Prema Powerteam, with whom he is competing to win the F2 championship. The support races action resumes in Bahrain in a few weeks’ time. And with four races to go, the expectation is that Schumacher will lift the title.
