Lando Norris made his Formula 1 debut in 2019 and, at 21 years old, is one of the youngest drivers on the grid. The McLaren driver has only two years of Formula 1 experience,; however, Zak Brown feels that it’s time for Lando to be one of the big guys in the sport.

“This year will be his third year. Clearly, Daniel has a lot more experience but I think it’s time for Lando to no longer be a rookie,” said the McLaren Boss.

Daniel Ricciardo will join Norris at McLaren this season. The young Briton will be required to work much harder this season to keep up with his multiple Grand Prix winning teammate.

“It’ll be a less experienced driver than Daniel but I expect them to push each other extremely hard and I think Lando will continue to grow with having someone like Daniel as his team-mate,” Zak Brown further added.

Brown Lauds Lando Norris for his 2020 performance

The McLaren driver claimed his first Formula 1 podium last season. He broke into the top ten finish in 2020 with 97 points in the P9 position. In contrast, the young Briton finished in P11 with 49 points in 2019.

Lando Norris also helped McLaren record their best season finish since 2012. The team finished in the P3 position as Zak Brown praised the Briton for his performance.

“I think Lando has done an excellent job, if we look at what we asked him to do after year one, our review of year one was he had an excellent year, we wanted him to pick up his aggressiveness,” he said.

Brown further stated that there were times last season where he showed impressive maturity. He avoided some rookie mistakes, attesting to his growth as a driver.

Looking back at 2020 season, Lando had some impressive starts, races, and some exciting battles. McLaren is clear that they want the young Briton to continue being aggressive on the track and keep maturing as a driver.
