Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen at Interlagos. It’s been quite a story over the last few years at the Brazilian GP. And the 2022 Sao Paulo race was no different when the duo collided early at Turns 1 and 2. On seeing the incident, one of Red Bull’s simulator drivers slammed Lewis Hamilton using language which was arguably derogatory.

Rudy van Buren, who recently joined Red Bull as a sim driver, is also one of Max Verstappen‘s mates. They team up together in sim-racing for Team Redline. Speaking on the RacingNews365 podcast, Van Buren expressed his opinion on the Brazil GP incident between Max and Lewis.
Van Buren stated, “Wow, what a s***** move that was! People will say I have orange glasses on, but no, not at all. Hamilton is squeezed on the brakes from the outside. If you watch the onboard, you can hear him accelerating in the corner give to drive his car wide.”
He mentioned further, “Normally he wouldn’t do that and then Max is 80 percent wrong and that’s enough. The rules say you have to sit in front of the middle of your competitor’s car, then you deserve to be given space. And Hamilton doesn’t give that.”

Eventually, the incident happened and Hamilton finished P2 while Verstappen ended the race in P6. Van Buren sided with his mate on the incident. However, no driver wished to yield when they fought on the track.
Van Buren analyzed the Brazil GP incident calling out Lewis Hamilton
Van Buren analyzed the incident in detail and stated how it would have panned out without any contact. He stated, “In fact, even if Lewis had given room, he would have held the position. Then they would have come through the corner together and argued on the way to turn four, but that’s racing.”

He concluded, “Max wouldn’t have won that race without that incident. But Hamilton just has something against Max. As soon as he is overtaken in a nice way, in this case from the outside, in turn one – and then you’re already a bit of a d*** in his position – then off together.”

The Red Bull sim driver’s analysis may be technically accurate. Yet it may potentially be just another pebble in the ocean of several opinions about this incident.
Nonetheless, we turn our heads towards the Abu Dhabi GP. It might be interesting to see if Red Bull can match Mercedes‘ newfound pace. What do you think? Will we see another Hamilton-Verstappen battle in Abu Dhabi?
