The Red Bull Racing team has a winners problem on their hand. Although it is a good problem, it will definitely put the team hierarchy in awkward situations. And as much as they would like to avoid it, situations like Jos Verstappen’s comments will arise throughout the season.

Jos made his feelings known after the Monaco Grand Prix where his son, Max, finished third. Not satisfied with this outcome, Jos believed they should have favored his son during the race. Verstappen’s teammate Perez won the race, leaving only a 15-point gap between the two. A gap that would’ve been greater had Max been favored and won the race.

However, there were no favorites and never will be, according to team principal Christian Horner. Horner commented on Jos’s statement in Baku, he said, “Dads and fathers are never totally objective.”

Pitting Verstappen ahead of Perez would’ve only been disastrous, as revealed by the Red Bull boss. Keeping the internal politics aside, Horner directed the attention towards the collective goal of beating Ferrari.

He added, “Collectively as a team, we’ve got to take the fight and take the challenge to Ferrari, who are looking very quick this year.”

Red Bull got the jump on Ferrari during the Monaco race and overall in both the championship tables, but the season is far from over. And Milton Keynes-based team will need to maintain consistency to see achieve the collective goal.

Horner insists there is no favoritism in the Red Bull paddock. He said, “The No 1 driver is the driver that’s ahead, it’s as simple as that.” The Brit clarified there is no preferred driver within the team and the better performer will get the preference.

Checo had the track position in Monaco and that’s why he got the call to pit first. As it seems, the Red Bull team will favor track position and not the driver during every race. Even in Baku, whoever out qualifies the other will have the first call on strategy, according to Horner.
