Max Verstappen’s blistering pace at the Hungarian GP triggered Toto Wolff who suggested that the other cars compared to the RB19 look like F2 cars. The 25-year-old finished the race 30+ seconds ahead of everyone. This time around, Former Ferrari Boss slams the FIA over a “pointless” rule after being triggered by Max Verstappen’s blistering pole at the Belgium GP. Why is the FIA being slammed?

Max Verstappen took the pole for this weekend’s Main Race at Spa Francorchamps. While everyone expected Max Verstappen to get on the pole given his dominant pace so far this season, it wasn’t as straightforward as it looked. The Dutchman barely made it to Q3 and had a heated exchange of words with his engineer after Q2. Nonetheless, Max Verstappen came back with a blockbuster lap and got the pole position going 8 tenths faster than anyone.

Ex-Ferrari Boss, Peter Windsor who once managed Ferrari’s UK F1 facility, slammed FIA after Max Verstappen took the pole with a gem of a lap. Windsor suggested that FIA should no longer give a point for the fastest lap but for the pole position. He further explained how Verstappen’s pole lap was glorious yet he got nothing to show for it. And that if there was a point for the fastest lap, at least Verstappen and Co. would’ve gotten a reward for an amazing day of work.

According to Peter Windsor’s YouTube video, he said “They should do away with this point for the fastest lap. Which to me is a bit pointless. And they should give it to the pole winner. And here’s a classic example of Max Verstappen’s getting a glorious pole at Spa. The track was not wet and he was flat through Eau Rouge, flat through Blanchimont. He’s on the pole by a considerable margin.”

However, it wouldn’t have been a good day at work if Verstappen got out in Q2. The Dutchman anyways has a 5 place grid penalty for a gearbox change. While Max Verstappen was furious after Q2, the Red Bull taskmaster suggests that the Dutchman exploded in Q3.

Helmut Marko suggested that “Max Exploded” after Verstappen’s blistering lap in Q3

Max Verstappen had a rough Q2 where the track transitioned from wet to dry toward the latter half of the session. Verstappen didn’t like the strategy his engineer put him on. Nonetheless, after barely making it to Q3, Max Verstappen’s pole lap shocked everyone. Helmut Marko suggested that Verstappen always wants the best and that’s what makes him super competitive.

According to @redbulletin’s Tweet, Helmut Marko said “We didn’t have a smooth Q2, that was close. In the second run in Q3, Max exploded, that was an unbelievable demonstration. There was a difference of opinion. He always wants to have the best, that’s what makes him so competitive.”
