Marina Bay served us a lovely evening of racing on Sunday night under the lights and heavy showers. It also created a more spicy title race as Max Verstappen came up short. But among the few winners from the night was Daniel Ricciardo.

After a torrential pour delayed the race start by an hour and 5 minutes, the drivers had an additional concern to take care of. On a track notorious for its corners and difficulty in overtaking, the weather conditions were brutal for racing.

The race ended with a mixed bag of results. Favorite Charles Leclerc could only grab P2, while Sergio Perez took the top prize. On the other hand, title favorite Verstappen had to delay his celebrations, as he could only manage a measly P7.

Verstappen was among the five losers from the race night as per the Formula 1 website. His run of 5 victories came to a halt at the back of a problematic qualifying. Not much he could have done starting at P8.

However, a bright light shone for Ricciardo. The fan favorite is arguably at the nadir of his F1 career. He was recently let go by McLaren at the back of his poor form for the team, and currently has no seat for the 2023 season.

Finally, Ricciardo showed his mettle as he finished P5 on the night. The P5 is his first top-five position since Saudi Arabia in 2021. It’s also only the 6th race this season where he has managed to bring home points for the team.

Ricciardo’s best drive for the season might have come in too late. But he will be drawing confidence from the race and will hope this race reminded everyone of his abilities.

As he was asked about his reaction to the result in Singapore, Verstappen chimed in with a cheeky response as he said, “Horny.”

And fans picked up on the snippet to swoon over the lovely friendship the ex-teammates share from their time together at Red Bull.

Fans also picked up other cute moments of the two during the presser.
