The stewards fined Max Verstappen 50k euros for his actions in the Mercedes rear wing controversy. The Red Bull driver had touched the rear wing of Lewis Hamilton’s car after the qualifying session. He was comparing his and Hamilton’s DRS wings as Lewis had out-qualified him by almost half a second.

After the steward’s decision, Max was seen expressing his thoughts on the fine. Verstappen took to a virtual Le Mans stream to express his disappointment on the fine.

I do have to pay, so that is a bit less FIFA points for me, then, on my laptop,” said Verstappen.

The championship leader extended his championship lead over Lewis Hamilton. Despite Hamilton’s fightback from the back of the grid to P5, he could not stop Max from adding two points to the lead.

Had the stewards decided to penalize Verstappen too like they did Hamilton, the scenario and Verstappen’s comments would be a lot different. It was quite clear that the Red Bull does not have the straight-line speed compared to his rival.
