The crowd hooted and cheered frantically as Max Verstappen spun around during his Q3 flying lap! The Red Bull driver made a mega save in what one can only describe as severely tricky conditions at Silverstone. Somehow, the Dutch Lion even managed a provisional pole position and looked set for P1 before Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz snatched it away in the dying moments.

Despite that, Verstappen’s performance remains commendable. The 24-year-old remained competitive throughout the quali stages, locking in a front-row start for himself (P2). The Silverstone qualifying 2022 is widely being regarded as one of the best this year. Pole position could’ve belonged to even a midfield team, as the competition remained fierce till the end.

When asked about his spin, Verstappen replied wittily to the question. He funnily covered up by saying, “I was warming the tires. That’s why did the 360 as one. It’s all about to put a little bit more heat in them.” Fans have hailed the Dutchman’s save given it could’ve been detrimental if he crashed into the barriers in those conditions.

Although the Red Bull driver has not secured pole, he remains a favorite for the British GP win. Pole winner Carlos Sainz and Verstappen have competed at the Canadian GP previously as well, with the latter running away with the win.

Though Sainz will start on the front this time, the RB-18 has been quicker than the F1-75. Ferrari’s race day issues also haven’t been a secret. And with Verstappen sandwiched between the two Ferraris, the race, expectedly, will be worth the watch.

Max Verstappen was both booed and cheered on by the British crowd

Verstappen’s treatment has not been the best in Britain. Several factors play into this as the driver’s father-in-law has been in the news for his racist abuse of Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion, as we all know, was the Dutchman’s arch-nemesis last season.

The Abu Dhabi debacle that awarded Verstappen the 2021 world title also might’ve played a role in his welcome. The crowd booed and was unsupportive of the young driver, despite him being a clear favorite amongst many other F1 fans. His response? “If they want to do that, then they will. I love being here. A great track and generally a nice atmosphere. Maybe some people don’t like me, but I don’t care.”
