Fernando Alonso grabbed the milestone for most race starts in Formula One at the Singapore Grand Prix. His career has spanned over two decades in Formula One. The Spaniard has two world championship titles under his belt but current champion Max Verstappen feels he should’ve had more.

Ever since winning his back-to-back drivers’ championships in 2005 and 2006, Fernando Alonso has never had his name on the honors board again. He has come close twice during his stint at Ferrari, but luck just wasn’t on his side.

Max Verstappen is on the verge of winning his second world title in two years. A feat about which Fernando Alonso can say, ‘been there, done that’. Verstappen, however, felt that had luck not struck the Spaniard, he would’ve had more titles to his name.

Verstappen said, “if you would have put Fernando in the cars where other people have won championships with, he would have done the same.”

He said about the luck factor in F1, “In F1, you need a bit of luck, and you need to have the luck that you make the right decision and then have a dominant car for a long time.”

The ‘Dutch Lion’, however, said that by winning two titles, Alonso had done well for himself. Calling Alonso a “great guy”, he said that he is a great personality for F1.

Alonso’s former boss at Minardi, Paul Stoddart, appearing on ‘In the Fast Lane’ podcast, praised Fernando’s capabilities in an F1 car. He talked about his earliest memories of working with him. Stoddart also talked about how Alonso should’ve won two titles with Ferrari as well.

He expressed had Alonso had certain factors going his way, he could have won more titles than Lewis Hamilton. Stoddart said, In my mind, he’s a two-time world champion that could ever so easily if at different team, at a different time had been, where he ended up, he could easily be ahead of Hamilton. He certainly had the talent.”

Fernando Alonso recently started his 350th race in Formula 1. Sadly, the milestone was ruined by his 4th DNF of the season. He took Alpine to task for a car that had reliability issues. With a multi-year contract with Aston Martin, the Spaniard is showing no signs of stopping any soon.
