The 2009 world champion, Jenson Button believes Lewis Hamilton is enjoying an ‘exciting’ title fight with championship leader Max Verstappen. Furthermore, the former teammate admits Verstappen lured the seven-time world champion to renew his contract.
After winning his maiden World Championship with Brawn GP, Jenson Button moved to McLaren in 2010 to partner fellow British driver Lewis Hamilton, creating what was dubbed as an all-British ‘super team’.
The knight recently signed a two-year contract extension with Mercedes. Meanwhile, according to Jenson Button, Max Verstappen provoked the reigning champion into a new contract.

What did Jenson Button say?
“I think Lewis is enjoying it, I think he’s enjoying the fight; you know, with someone. He knows how talented Max are, he knows how good Red Bull are,” said the 2009 world champion, Jenson Button.
“So yeah, I think it’s exciting fight for him, and that what keeps him interested in Formula 1 and why he’s probably got this new contract for the next two years.”
Lewis Hamilton currently sits at P2 in the Drivers’ Standings, 40 points behind Max Verstappen.
Close fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen at Silverstone: Button
The seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, is on a winless streak of five races. Whereas, his title rival Max Verstappen is in red hot form, winning three races back to back.
Meanwhile, Jenson Button believes it will be a very close fight between the reigning champion, Hamilton, and the championship leader, Verstappen at Silverstone.
“He’s got a challenge on his hands and I know that he’s behind in the championship at the moment to Max, but he will be fighting with him later,” said the former Hamilton teammate, Button.

“I have a feeling. And Silverstone is a kind of circuit where their car should work pretty well. So it should be a very close fight with the Red Bull and Max Verstappen.”
Mercedes has a solid record at Silverstone; they have won nearly every race at this circuit since 2013 except the 2018 season. On the other hand, Red Bull won the British GP all the way back in 2012.
