The recently concluded Brazilian Grand Prix saw George Russell pick up his first-ever race win in Formula 1. The young Brit who joined Mercedes earlier this season gave his team their first win of the season as well. With THE first win under his belt, the celebration would’ve been humongous, right? Well, that wasn’t really the case.

As Russell, Max Verstappen, and Daniel Ricciardo got together in a press conference ahead of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Silver Arrows driver was exposed for his unique way of celebration, which was sleeping! George Russell slept throughout the flight.
As the new Mercedes recruit had some explaining to do, Verstappen interrupted and stated, “Charles [Leclerc] said you slept all flight.”
Agreeing to that, the former Williams driver conveyed, “I slept quite a lot of the time. It was a tough race. No celebrations have been put on hold until this Sunday. I’ve got some of my family out here this weekend, so Sunday night this week.”
“I think there were so many emotions on Sunday night. Speaking with all of you guys afterwards and the celebrations with the team. Then everyone was in a bit of a rush to get to the airport. The flight didn’t take off until 3 am and I was absolutely knackered,” concluded the 24-year-old driver.
George Russell gave Mercedes much-needed victory while Lewis Hamilton waits
The last weekend’s race was Mercedes’s first race win in the 2022 F1 season. The team from Brackley achieved their hard-earned victory amid a happy Brazilian Grand Prix weekend. Russell, who was on the pole after winning the sprint, made sure he crosses the finish line before anyone else.
"Huge congratulations to George, what an amazing drive. He truly deserves it."

The Brazilian GP weekend was quite eventful for the German team. They took P1 and P3 in the sprint and finished 1-2 in the race. Their 1-2 finish came for the first time since the 2020 Imola Grand Prix.
However, Lewis Hamilton is yet to win a race. The man who has 103 wins under his belt is yet to take the chequered flag in 2022. As the last race comes up this weekend in Abu Dhabi, if he fails to win the race, he’ll be unable to carry forward his record of winning at least one race in every season.
