Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton find themselves locked in one of the most intense title fights in recent history. While Hamilton looks to seal a record-breaking eighth title, Verstappen looks in a much better position than before to break his duck.

Although the Dutchman is 13 years younger than his British rival, he admitted Hamilton’s experience does not give him an advantage this year.

During the races before the summer break, Verstappen and Hamilton pushed each other to their limit. While their battle intensified after the British Grand Prix, the summer break provides an opportunity for a fresh start.

Although Verstappen led the championship for multiple races, poor finishes at Silverstone and the Hungaroring ruined his momentum. Despite those disasters, the Dutchman finds himself just eight points behind Hamilton.

Being a seven-time world champion gives Hamilton not just confidence, but a wealth of experience to thrive under pressure. However, while admitting the Briton’s experience isn’t an advantage, Verstappen admitted the only advantage they can get lies in the machinery.

He said“Personally, I don’t think so. The only advantage you can really have is just if you have a faster car. In this sport, it is so dominant when you have a good car. There are so many good drivers in this sport but they don’t have the opportunities to fight at the front.”

Verstappen: Have to try and score the most available points

The 23-year-old further mentioned that finishing races and scoring points are all that matter. Hence, he believes that fighting consistently for those results at the front negates the advantage Hamilton has with his experience.

“If you have seven titles, or one, or zero, I think at the end of the day when you have spent a few years in F1, and especially more towards the front like the top five, you know that you have to try to finish every race,” said Verstappen.

“You know that you have to try and score the most available points every single weekend and I think all of us always try to do our best and race in the best possible way. So I don’t really see the advantage there.”

With predictions of a wet race at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, expect a thrilling race to unfold. Can Verstappen leapfrog Hamilton once again in the driver’s championship?
