The year was packed with lots of thrills, action, and controversies. The major controversial moment came a short time ago when Red Bull were found guilty of overspending their set budget for 2021 year by 2.2 million. And according to Sergio Perez, the team hasn’t gained any extra advantage with the breach of the cost cap.

Although the year has been Red Bull’s, the season has also encapsulated Milton Keynes outfit in a major controversy. Towards the end of the season, there were rumors that Red Bull has overspent their set budget limit. As they were confirmed, the punishment wasn’t decided by FIA then. But there were speculation that Max Verstappen’s title of 2021 could be snatched away.

This, however, didn’t happen as we all know. But the Austrian outfit faced a $7 million fine and a 10% reduction in their wind tunnel time. The team boss, Christian Horner termed the punishment as ‘draconian’, while the rivals didn’t go easy on the Red Bulls and constantly fired shots at them. Talking to the telegraph, Sergio Perez revealed the impact on the team.

He said, “If you look at the facts, Max didn’t win the championship because of that. We didn’t get any performance benefit from it,” he said. “Teams that want to take advantage of this by putting Red Bull in a bad light are just unfair. It shows that they are bad losers.”

Perez was fantastic this season, and he missed the second spot in the driver’s championship with the finest margin. But all of that is arguably not enough for papa Perez, who wants his son to be number one.

Sergio Perez’s father says that his son’s aim is to be number one

Season 2022 saw the rise of Sergio Perez. The Mexican driver won two Grand Prix in Monaco and Singapore. Besides, Checo secured 11 podiums in total, which eventually made him finish behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

If Max Verstappen would have given his position to Perez in the Brazilian GP, the Mexican driver would have entered the Abu Dhabi GP with a 2-point advantage. However, in the end, he fell short of 3 points.

Keeping all that aside now, Antonio, the Father of Sergio Perez, wants his son to be number one. He said, “It hurts us a lot that he did not finish in second place, but for Red Bull it was everything in the campaign. They had the Drivers’ World Championship, the Constructors’ World Championship and wanted 1-2 in Drivers’ which would have been historic.”

Papa Perez further added, “Now the ball is on his side, he has to prepare, work, concentrate to be the best. Today he is number three in the world, his next step is to be number one. He has to try to win all the races, all the pole positions and try to be in front of all the competitions.”
