The new season has seen a Ferrari resurrection of sorts. They will be hoping to go on and emulate their success from the early 2000s. One mainstay from those days is the current team principal, Mattia Binotto. The Italian was an engineer working alongside Michael Schumacher.

There are a lot of lessons the team boss picked up from his younger days with the team. They could perhaps help him in making his era his own.

Young Binotto learning from Michael Schumacher

Mattia Binotto started at Ferrari back in 1995, the same around when Michael Schumacher joined the team. They shared the entire Ferrari era of dominance that started in 2000. The Italian picked up a bucket load of knowledge from his time back then.

Recently in an interview with Bild, he was quizzed about the early 2000s with Ferrari. Notably, he was asked about his time with Schumacher. To which he answered, “It was a fantastic time. I’m proud to have been part of it all. ”

He went on to add, “And not only that: I learned a lot from him. I learned that mentality and ability to be a leader from him. I will never forget that.”

The knowledge he has amassed through the years has surely helped Ferrari kick start another era of supremacy.

How has Ferrari fared in 2022?

The new era has brought out the best in Ferrari once again. They have dominated the competition and collected 78 points in the first 2 races. Their only challengers so far have been the Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

They lead the constructor’s championship by 30 points. Ferrari has also helped Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz occupy the top 2 spots in the driver’s standings. With the next race in Australia, they will look to extend their lead in the standings.
