The ‘Interstellar’ star is a known F1 fan. He’s been spotted in the paddock several times, and his friendship with Lewis Hamilton has also been legendary. McConaughey is among the people who always kept their faith in the 39-year-old. From witnessing Hamilton create history in Austin in 2019 to his recent win in Silverstone, the Hollywood actor had kind words for the F1 racer. And as some fans have pointed out – “Legends always root for fellow legends.”

Matthew shared an endearing message on his official X handle where he wrote: “Awesome to see you atop the podium @LewisHamilton Congratulations.” Resonating the emotions of the LH Army, the Hollywood star expressed his joy at Hamilton’s recent accolade on British soil. Moreover, he was even among the crowd in the Parc Ferme in Austin, back in 2019, when Lewis Hamilton won his sixth title. And what a moment that was!

Austinite Matthew McConaughey was present at the 2019 Austin Grand Prix that saw Lewis Hamilton take on his sixth World Champion win. He was just one title shy of Michael Schumacher’s record back then. Hamilton crossed the chequered flag, finishing second, but being on top of the table, the Briton clicked the title without any obstacles. As he exited the car, Hamilton was caught running towards his team. while his crew was waiting for him; so was the Hollywood star. And without a moment’s hesitation, the then-six times world champion dived in to give a tight hug to McConaughey; a moment etched in the hearts and minds of all F1 enthusiasts!

Following Hamilton’s win, Matthew McConaughey shared his thoughts with Sky Sports: “We just enjoyed our company. It was a really positive room, and we talked about life. His family was there. His greatness is already proven. He’s 34 years young, and a six-time world champion. If you’re a world champion once in life that’s an incredible feat.” The night before the race, McConaughey even had dinner with the Hamiltons. Friends since meeting in Europe years ago, McConaughey’s words at the table might have inspired Hamilton’s masterful race after a disappointing qualifying.
