A cheater is the one who gets caught cheating. Aston Martin copied Mercedes’ homework in the open in 2020 and is now looking to latch onto Red Bull’s back. A newly introduced update gives Lawrence Stroll and Co. a massive advantage. However, the F1 community slams the green team for stealing once again, this time from Red Bull. Let’s see what the fans had to say.

Dan Fallows, along with other engineers joining Aston Martin for 2023, has been the revival of the team formerly known as Racing Point. After 2 unsuccessful years under the Aston Martin name, the Silverstone-based team has finally made the jump and is arguably the second-fastest team on the grid. However, the team was tagged as a copy team in 2020 when they produced a copy of the Mercedes W10.

However, while many call the AMR23 a copy of Red Bull designs and the team poaching the former Red Bull head of aerodynamics, it’s far from a copy. The AMR23 looks like it took inspiration from many cars on the grid, stuck it all together, and made it work in the best possible way. Regardless, the car comes with its own challenges, of which straight-line speed and drag are major concerns.

Aston Martin introduced a Red Bull-esque rear wing at the Azerbaijan GP, which saw the team improve in the straight line speed and the DRS efficiency. According to Formu1a.uno, the new rear wing has very similar efficiency to that of the Red Bull. The AMR23 was 2.04% down on efficiency in Jeddah compared with Red Bull, whereas the updated rear wing meant they were only 0.12% down in Miami.

However, as people say, the sins are never forgotten and the copycat name stuck with Aston Martin despite the 2023 challenger merely taking inspiration. Fans reacted on social media to slander the ‘Green Bull’ and remind the team of the sins they committed back in 2020, as the new rear wing gives them a massive advantage

Fans React to Aston Martin’s Red Bull inspired rear wing upgrade

Fans took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the Silverstone-based team, copying another team’s ideas once again. Many suggested that Aston Martin’s engineers are masters at copying and have perfected the art of ripping off another team’s ideas. Others changed the team’s name to Green Bull as the majority of the car is inspired by Red Bull’s design philosophy

Many suggested that Aston Martin probably has the whole RB19 blueprint back at the factory and that they should just bring a green RB19 to the grid.

While Aston Martin may or may not have copied Red Bull, one cannot deny the stellar job that the team has done to rise from 7th in constructors last year to now possibly the best team after Red Bull.
