There seems to be no respite in the rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, with the British Grand Prix opening a can of worms.

Things appeared to settle in Hungary, with the duo fist-bumping each other following the qualifying, and Verstappen slamming claims that Hamilton is a ‘dirty driver’.

However, if Dr. Helmut Marko is to be believed, the relationship between the two title contenders is far from normal. Moreover, the Austrian further reckoned that there is no relationship anymore between Hamilton and Verstappen after the Silverstone incident.

Relationship between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen

During a podcast, Marko revealed that the relationship between the 2021 title-contending duo pretty much collapsed with the race weekend in the United Kingdom.

You have to do your job. But to win the championship, you must make points. So you have to finish. So you have to focus on the future races. But, yeah, there’s no anymore relationship,” Marko told Mike Hosking, a kiwi radio broadcaster.

The tension around the championship battle with Hamilton is steadily getting to Verstappen, with the post-qualifying press conference proving why.

The Dutchman lashed out at the interviewer, Tom Clarkson, who tried digging deep into the possibility of yet another collision with Hamilton during the Hungarian GP. That incident clearly showed the heat Verstappen is still carrying against Hamilton. And it is barely going to subside in the coming months.

Marko slams Mercedes for stealing the championship lead

The Austrian was rather unhappy with Mercedes causing disruptions to Red Bull drivers’ races over the past couple of weeks. After Hamilton sabotaged Verstappen’s race at Silverstone, it was Valtteri Bottas at Hungaroring.

The Finn crashed into McLaren’s Norris, causing a chain reaction, which led to the retirement of Sergio Perez. Meanwhile, his teammate’s race was almost compromised with more than significant damages to the bargeboard.

Contrastingly, a successful race from Hamilton meant that Red Bull lost the lead in both constructor’s standings and the driver’s standings. And Marko was visibly frustrated.

That’s the second weekend that we were taken out from a Mercedes car. So, we lost all our championship lead in the constructors and in the driver’s standings. So annoying,” he said.
