Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko, believes he knows the reason why Mercedes were struggling during the pre-season testing. The Silver Arrows had a gearbox issue, and, as a result, their drivers had a difficult time while trying to drive the car around the Bahrain International Circuit.
Even though their car seemed undrivable, Marko believes that Mercedes are still the favorites to win the championship in the upcoming season. He believes that the Brackley-based team is not showing everything they have for the 2021 season.
If they really do have a problem, which most people don’t think they do, Marko knows they are a strong team and have time to fix any issue they have. Mercedes are entering the season with the hopes of winning their eighth title, but if these problems continue, they might have a hard time achieving that dream.

Helmut Marko knows Mercedes is hiding something for the new championship
The Red Bull advisor said, “Mercedes is still the favorite. We think they drove with more fuel than us. That means they have a lot of confidence and don’t show the back of their tongue.”
He added, “This is a very strong, ideal team and there are still fourteen days until the first race. You can assume that they will have largely resolved their problems by then.
“They drove much harder than we did. You have seen that Hamilton in particular has driven a lot off the track. The car is restless and unpredictable.” ( translated via Google)
