F1 fans might soon hear the wedding bells ringing at Mercedes’ Stuttgart factory. Their star recruit George Russell has sparked the latest gossip regarding his love life. When the Briton posted a short clip from his gym, former Australian driver Mark Webber left a comment addressing Russell’s girlfriend Carmen as ‘the bride’. This has led to speculations that the young couple may get married soon.

Having debuted in Formula 1 in 2019, George Russell captured the fans’ attention as the talented rookie of the year. A year later, he was seen out and about with Carmen Montero Mundt, a UK citizen born in Spain. At that time, she was a student at the University of Westminster in London where she studied business management and finance. Despite no connection to motorsports, Carmen is often present at George’s races, cheering on the Silver Arrows recruit.

Carmen Montero Mundt revealed in one of her Instagram Q&As that she met with George Russell in London through a mutual friend. In September 2020, they went official with their relationship on Instagram. The couple made their red carpet debut at the premiere of the James Bond movie ‘No Time To Die’ at the Royal Albert Hall in 2021. Three years onwards, they are still going strong and marriage may be on the cards now.

When George Russell uploaded his workout video with Carmen Montero Mundt, several famous faces from the F1 paddock commented on it. Amongst them, there was Aussie ex-Red Bull racer Mark Webber. He wrote, “Please help the bride with the rowing technique, mate.” Of course, he meant that Carmen, who was on the rowing machine, needed help. But his use of the word “bride” indicates Russell’s girlfriend might soon become his wife.

This goes perfectly with the couple’s roaring engagement rumors that took F1 town by storm. Where did those rumors arise from?

Like many other F1 WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends of F1 racers), Carmen Mundt is quite active on social media. The 27-year-old has amassed a huge following of 399,000 by sharing bits and pieces of her life on Instagram. A couple of months earlier, Carmen had shared a snap of a woman named Camila on her IG stories whom fans discovered to be a wedding photographer. That also fueled the speculation that Russell and his girlfriend were already planning their wedding, and Camila would shoot pictures at the event.

Moreover, Carmen Mundt has also shared that she will leave London soon. Perhaps she will move in with George Russell, who lives in Monaco like many other racers. If these observations are correct, the F1 grid might need to prepare for a big, fat wedding. And since the racers are too busy, the ceremony might happen during the off-season after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

While George Russell’s personal life has been the talk of the F1 town recently, his work life is flourishing too. The Mercedes racer attained the team’s first podium at a main race in 2024 in Canada. He also came close to scoring another top-3 finish at the Spanish GP in Barcelona. However, his teammate Lewis Hamilton beat him to the chase and he had to settle for P4.

There are back-to-back races in Austria and Britain in the upcoming two weeks. From Russell’s girlfriend (and perhaps soon-to-be wife) Carmen’s stories, it appears she will attend both races.
