Even two weeks after a Spanish GP he would want to forget, Charles Leclerc can’t seem to catch a break. Formula 1 is back in Montreal this weekend for the Canadian GP at a track almost every driver loves. While he adores the track, Leclerc might not be a big fan of the paddock right now because that’s where his latest antic resulted in embarrassment.

Now that Daniel Ricciardo isn’t on the grid anymore, the F1 drivers don’t have a designated joker amongst themselves. While many of them are funny in their own way, Leclerc doesn’t even have to try being funny most of the time. Listening to his candid conversations (especially with Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz) and watching him go through his driver duties off-track naturally brings out his effortlessly funny side, and his fans can’t get enough.

As an F1 fan, buying yourself your favorite team or driver’s merchandise is pretty normal. But getting merchandise directly from the driver is an opportunity few would pass up. In Montreal, one Leclerc fan saw him walking down the paddock and asked for his cap. The moments that followed are what have F1 fans in splits.

A Twitter user posted the entire exchange along with the caption, “‘are you ready?’ and then he manages to get it wrong 💀” The video showed Charles folding his cap to throw it to the fan upstairs. Once he was ready to throw, he asked the fan if they were ready to catch it. Without considering air resistance and how light the cap weighs, Leclerc simply threw it up, hoping it would reach the fan. But all it did was fly up two feet into the air and float down like a parachute.

At the end of the video, Charles can be heard calling his trainer, Andrea, for help. Maybe Andrea will have to incorporate a few merchandise-throwing exercises into Leclerc’s training regime. Needless to say, this exchange had fans poking fun at the Ferrari driver.

Fans didn’t hold back while pulling Charles Leclerc’s leg

Drivers giving their merchandise to fans is something so common in the F1 paddock that Leclerc’s failure to do it successfully had Twitter users struggling to hold back tears from laughing.

One user said: “he’s a high-performance athlete,” making fun of him for being unable to do something as simple as throwing a cap up, cheekily referring to a Daniel Ricciardo quote.

Another said: “Give him a break physics he has a race this sunday,” sympathizing with Leclerc’s recent bad form, both on track and, as seen in the video, off-track too.

One user even compared it to another situation: “the “this one is for you baby” and then completely missing the shot energy 😭”

While most of the fans were making fun of Leclerc’s embarrassing moment, many others pointed out how he desperately looked toward his physical trainer and called him.
