Lando Norris has been an advocate for mental health in Formula 1 since he joined the sport. Having battled with the anxieties that come with the life of an F1 driver, Norris recognizes the importance of voicing his experience to help someone else. Thus, the driver has helped many by sharing his experiences. In a recent interview, Norris admits that opening up about his problems has been the best decision he’s ever made.

In an interview with the Daily Express, Norris opened up about the consequences of talking about his mental health. “The good thing is seeing the reaction from people and my fans. Seeing the messages and how they respond to me opening up about it is what makes it worth it.”

Norris is also aware of his outreach as a growing celebrity. Therefore, by talking about it, Norris has helped normalize the conversation. “Sadly, it can go as far as people saying that you’ve saved their life, which makes you realize how much of an impact those words can have and how much you can help people around you. It definitely makes it all worth it.”

Discussing the effects of his position as an F1 driver, Norris discussed the difficulties in maintaining his mental health. “There’s a lot of things within sport which can influence it. It’s much tougher than people might think from a mental perspective.” As a result, Norris encourages people to open up to having a discussion.

Looking at the impact he’s had, Norris encouraged other people to open up about their experiences as well. “It’s good that more people are raising awareness ‑ people who maybe look like they’re having a great time aren’t necessarily always having a great time, so the important thing is recognizing it and getting the support that you need.”

Thus, Norris once again joined hands with Mind to raise funds for those seeking help. Reflecting on the importance of easing the burden by talking to people, Norris shared his experience. “What helped me the most was speaking to my friends, family, or the team I have around me. I also dealt with some of it myself. I think I did a good job myself, but at the same time what definitely helped was being around the right people.”

Thus, the Brit takes on the battle of helping people find the necessary help. As a growing influence on the younger generations, Norris has been an inspiration- both on and off the track.
