Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has always stood for the right things in the world. He is a staunch advocate of equality, environmental sustainability, etc. He was recently featured on the cover of the Attitude Magazine, showing his support for the LBTQ+ community.

During his interview with the Magazine, they asked the Aston Martin driver about his stance and his decision to take the knee to extend his support to Lewis Hamilton and the Black Lives Matter Movement.

Sebastian Vettel reveals why he felt important to stand alongside Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton was championing the issue of racism during the Black Lives Matter movement in the world. He and drivers like Vettel took the knee to show their support for the issue. The German driver revealed he had his reasons to take the knee with his long-time rival.

“All of us have to make our minds up for ourselves. I’m sure that, as I was and I am, the 18 other Formula One drivers were broadly supportive of Lewis’s aims, whether or not they stood or knelt to show that support.

What mattered is that we all showed up and were together. But, yes, I always took the knee, and I usually positioned myself alongside Lewis to do so. He and I see eye-to-eye on a lot of things,” said Vettel.

On the racing front, the four-time world champion did question whether the Mercedes driver can bounce back. He revealed drivers like him and Lewis don’t drive to finish 12 or 13th.

The German driver mentioned that George Russell would be more fired up than Lewis. He revealed that the Mercedes driver does not enjoy racing in the midfield against other drivers.

When you get to know the sport in the way I have done, and Lewis has done, winning and being at the top is what you strive for. Everybody is different, but you need to be fair from the outside and say, look, is Lewis naturally going to be as fired up about finishing eighth as George probably is? No, and I would be surprised if he was,” said Vettel.

It would be interesting to see if Hamilton can bounce back this season. But he would need to deliver consistent performances from here on to challenge his teammate.
