When it comes to recent rivalries, most assume the battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen takes the crown. And most would be correct. However, in Hamilton’s 16 years in the sport, there is another rivalry that comes in at a close second. His rivalry with teammate Nico Rosberg.

The two Mercedes men became bitter rivals in the 2015 season. Hamilton clinched the title in the 2015 season. However, Rosberg finished the 2015 season with a vendetta and started the 2016 one with a mission. The German, as we all know, won the 2016 F1 driver’s championship with a five-point advantage.

However, that doesn’t really encapsulate the battle between the two. The Mercedes men became fierce rivals in Rosberg’s championship-winning season. There was no friendly banter and no relationship to salvage as the Mercedes garage became a home of intense animosity between Hamilton and Rosberg.

Keeping this in mind, Rosberg wouldn’t have appreciated a particular piece of commentary from David ‘Crofty’ Croft in a particular race. During a race, acknowledging the German putting out the fastest lap at the end of the second lap, Crofty had a slip of tongue.

He said, “At the of the second lap, Roscoe. Rosberg, I should say, has put in the fastest lap.”

For those who are unaware, Roscoe is the name of Hamilton’s bulldog. Most would forgive Crofty for the hilarious mishap. Although we’re not sure if Rosberg would’ve taken too kindly to the mixup. Getting confused by your rival’s dog’s name is not exactly flattering.

Although Roscoe is a popular figure so the slip of the tongue is understandable.
