Charles Leclerc heads to the Monaco Grand Prix looking to end a run of bad luck he has had at the track. The streets of Monaco are the narrowest on the F1 calendar, so it is no surprise that it is a challenge for every Formula 1 driver.


However, for the Ferrari driver, this is his home. He grew up in the streets of Monaco and knows every corner of the circuit. But his results in this venue have been far from what one would expect. He has not finished a race in Monaco during his time at Formula 1.

Nevertheless, there is another chance for the Monegasque to end his destructive streak. As the championship race intensifies, he gave his thoughts on what it would mean to win his home race and his expectations this time around.

Charles Leclerc opens up on his unlucky Monaco GP streak

In his first-ever Monaco GP, Charles Leclerc crashed into Toro Rosso’s Brendon Hartley, and subsequently, retired. Moving to Ferrari in 2019 also did not favor him, as he was once again forced to retire. And despite securing a pole in 2021, the driver crashed during qualifying and did not take part in the race.

Although his luck in Monaco does not favor him, the Monegasque revealed he enjoys racing in his country. Leclerc said, ”It’s a dream. Since I’m a little child, I’ve been watching the Monaco GP, hoping and dreaming that one day I’ll be an F1 driver to race here. And now I’ve been doing it for 4 years.”

This year’s Monaco GP will prove to be a crucial race for him as Verstappen is currently leading the standing by 6 points. The Ferrari driver hopes he can finally win a race in this venue and take over the lead.

“Well I hadn’t had much luck and it didn’t happen the way I wanted it, so I hope this year will be the one. I still remember witnessing my first race here when I was 4, dreaming of becoming an F1 driver,” he added.

Can Leclerc finally break his Monaco curse?

Ferrari grabbed all the headlines during the early part of the season. Leclerc was in a league of his own in terms of driver standings. However, as Red Bull’s fortunes changed, the Prancing Horse took a blow.

Max Verstappen stands in the Leclerc’s way once again in Monaco and the world championship. At the same time, the former Alfa Romeo driver is confident of performing this time.

He stated, “It’s crazy to think that I’ve achieved the first race! Second dream is to become world champion and that’s why I need a good weekend here!”
