Netflix’s Drive to Survive was created for the new generation of fans. As the series progressed, it became very popular amongst the older fans as well. However, some believe that the show exaggerates rivalries and tries to convey a different narrative than what has actually happened on track. Max Verstappen believes that the new season did exactly that, and he didn’t take part in it.

The Red Bull driver has been vocal on Netflix’s series. He has openly spoken about his disappointment with the show and feels that it does not correctly portray the drivers. He has cited the show’s presentation of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris’ as an example that it tries to create an unnecessary rivalry.

Verstappen on Ricciardo-Norris rivalry on Drive to Survive

Max Verstappen did not take part in this season of Drive to Survive. He believes the show over-dramatizes the happenings on and off the track. The Dutch driver revealed the series showed McLaren driver, Lando Norris, in a bad way. In the press conference ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, he said, “They made Lando look a bit of a d***. I know Lando and you think ‘who is this guy?’.” Verstappen claimed as he was frustrated with the show’s representation of Norris.

The season’s second episode of the show features a deep insight into McLaren’s driver duo. Daniel Ricciardo struggled during the start of the 2021 season as Norris excelled in the first few races. However, after being lapped by Norris in the Monaco Grand Prix, the Australian completely lost his confidence.

Following the race, the young British driver reveals he has no sympathy for Ricciardo and his struggles at McLaren. Many believe it painted a rivalry that did not exist in the first place.

Red Bull will look to improve in Saudi Arabia

Formula 1 teams and drivers will prepare themselves for the next race in Saudi Arabia. This week provides a unique challenge to the one from Bahrain, as Jeddah is all about racing in a street circuit. Furthermore, it is the second-longest track in the schedule and is the fastest street circuit.

Red Bull had a solid weekend in Bahrain until misery in the form of fuel system issues hit them. Max Verstappen was the first to retire the car, followed by Sergio Perez in the final few laps of the race. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished 1-2 as Hamilton took the last spot on the podium. The result would have frustrated Christian Horner and co. But Saudi Arabia provides an opportunity to bounce back and score valuable points.
